The WOOZY Life

"Your link to the world of action sports & all things shred-ish"
Waaaaay back in college (2004), I met two of the sickest people to ever put on at the UCSD Media program, Jonathon Villegas & Kim Woo. If you ask me, it was a pretty instantaneous connection between the three of us; whether it be because we all skated to class, were stoked on the same hip-hop/action sports culture, or maybe even 'cause we were the only ones who actually spoke in any of our classes. Whichever it was, after watching some of their work in the audio/video realm, I knew that we could pump out some good stuff.
Kim Woo went on to intern over at Osiris shoes, a skate company based out of San Diego, and started to infiltrate the world of marketing for skate, wake, snow, and surf. Even though we all know she started off on the phones, Woozy quickly broke down some doors and took over the Osirs Girls' Team Mgr. position. Kim is the type of person that makes connections with people, whether it be in business or friendship, and keeps them for good. Somehow, she has the ability to fuse people, work, play, and passion into a business-minded machine that will undoubtedly be taking the world by storm shortly. Her blog, 'The Woozy Life', is a peak into her vision and I urge anyone who has a love for a board of anykind to take a look. You won't be dissappointed.

2009 Bday Throwdown

The Disc Golf Adventures - My good buddy Jeff and I celebrate back to back birthdays in September and usually partake in some sort of cooperative antics each year. This year was no exception. My little brother Brad and I road tripped up the I-5 back home, to Fairfield, CA to join forces with some guys I've had the pleasure of calling my 'best buds' since age 4. The results are documented in this fun little short I put together full of Beer Pong, Disc Golf, Basketball Tournaments, Football Games, and more Beer Pong. All in all, couldn't have asked for a better birthday. CHEERS!

Starring: Mike Jines, Jared Cleaver, Nick Rolley, Brad Jines, Steve English, Matt Tapia, Drew Speets, Alan Moore, Janet Meyer, Kaleigh Heathcote, Dima, Nicole, and awesomeness.
Music: Pretty Lights & Girl Talk
Thanks: Keystone 30 packs, Vaca Valley Disc Golf, B. Gale Wilson, Matt Byrd, Jamaal P., and Barack Obama.

'Monet Goes Surfing' - Paintings by Mike Jines Sr.

My old man, Mike Jines Sr., has always pushed his kids toward thinking differently. "Keep it positive," he always says. Especially in today's economic turbulence, its important to remember simple ideas like this one. A lot of his artwork, whether it be sculpting or painting, shows his mentality about his subject matter as well as his everyday outlook. "I don't want these waves that I am working on to look like pictures. I don't want them to just be another photograph." If you take a quick look at his paintings, you can see that a piece of art can work in all kinds of ways. It doesn't have to be perfect to be right. Sometimes, what people really want to see is a piece that allows them to participate rather than one that only instructs the eye. Whats important to you?

Trey Billion - "She Can Get It"

A recent video I shot & edited for my good friend, Trey B. Representing One Take Music, Trey has always been a ridiculously talented MC. Ever since I met him in 2003, he has had this crazy ability to freestyle for hours. Back in college, Jeff Sweeney, Muammar Reed, and a number of others used to tell him that he HAD to record his stuff sometime soon and that he had too much talent for just our ears. Low and behold, Trey kept at it and has now created a sound for himself that is wrapped in intelligent wordplay and packaged in a crispy fresh L.A. package.
(-performance recorded on LMU campus (L.A.) at 'The Library' and at a house party/show in the 909. Mini-DV and HD footage.)

Jines Studios Blog

Hello All!

And welcome to the Jines Studios Blog; A site designed to promote and display the adventurous world of art & media. Just as important as the final product, are the people and places we work with along the way. Those who work within media's infinite walls, have learned that a careful marriage of experiment and strategy help bridge the gap between the artist and his audience. Often, it is a combination of imagination and intelligence that leads to a 'successful' production. There is a connection shared by producer and talent that should be celebrated and considered less as 'work'. My hope is that first and foremost, you'll enjoy the variety of activites and work I've had the fortune to take part in throughout this journey. And perhaps, create a connection between many artists who have a love for what they do and an open mind about what they have yet to discover.

thanks.
Mike Jines
